From the New Romantic scene to Walford

Born in Islington, North London, in 1961, Martin Kemp acted in various TV shows as a youngster but found fame as a musician when he joined brother Gary's band, Spandau Ballet, on the bass guitar. The group became one of the big success stories of the early 1980s, scoring massive hits with "Gold" and "True", before splitting at the end of the decade. Kemp then returned to his first love when he starred alongside Gary in the crime biopic "The Krays" and later moved to LA, where he appeared in the likes of "The Outer Limits" and "Highlander: The Series". After taking a break to battle two brain tumours, Kemp returned to the spotlight in 1998 with the memorable villainous role of Steve Owen in "Eastenders". Following his 2002 exit from the soap, Kemp portrayed real-life murderer George Smith in "The Brides in the Bath", founded his own production company and turned director for 2011's "Stalker". He also presented "Martin Kemp's Murder Files", finished third behind Julian Clary and Coleen Nolan in the 2012 series of "Celebrity Big Brother" and played The Childcatcher in a UK tour of "Chitty Bang".
