Katy Perry biography
Born Katy Hudson in 1984, this sensational soloist grew up in a strict Christian family listening to gospel music with her Pentecostal pastor parents. By the age of 15, the talented young performer had attracted the attention of Nashville rock veterans but failed to make a mark on the insular Christian music scene in the South. She decided to take her music in a mainstream direction to allow herself more creative control, eventually bagging a record deal with Capitol Music Group in 2007. She released her debut single "I Kissed a Girl" the following year and it topped the Billboard 100 chart for seven weeks, selling almost five million copies.
Her breakthrough album One of the Boys spawned multiple hits including "Hot N Cold" and paved the way for her seminal sophomore album Teenage Dream. The record incorporated a huge mix of influences, including disco, funk, hip-hop and rock - a recipe for sure-fire success. Singles like "Firework", "E.T" (with Kanye West) and "Last Friday Night (TGIF)" were among the bestselling singles of the year across the globe. The entertainer continues her rollercoaster ride of success with new album Witness, which has spawned four singles: "Chained to the Rhythm" featuring Skip Marley; "Bon Appétit" featuring Migos; "Swish Swish" featuring Nicki Minaj; and "Hey Hey Hey".
