Future Islands tour: American trio announce 2018 UK tour dates after release of fifth album The Far Field
American synthpop group Future Islands have been performing live music for over a decade, initially as Art Lord and the Self Portraits, before a name change, switch of genre and trimmed line-up saw them evolve into their current guise.
They've hardly looked back since, touring for years to a diehard following before a performance of "Seasons (Waiting on You)!" on David Letterman's US TV show went viral, opening the door to millions of new fans overnight.
Now signed to major record company 4AD, the trio released critically acclaimed The Far Field in 2017, with tour dates at bigger venues and new material in the works. There is nothing quite like seeing the group live, with frontman Samuel T. Herring a mesmeric presence on stage with his unusually angular dance moves and rapid switches between crooning and metal vocals.

Future Islands: critically acclaimed fifth album
Forming a crucial part of the booming Wham City scene in Baltimore along with the likes of Dan Deacon and Ed Schrader's Music Beat, Future Islands are finally getting the recognition they deserve after five studio albums; beginning with Wave Like Home in 2008.
In Evening Air and On the Water followed before 2014's Singles – a record named because, in the words of frontman Samuel T. Herring, every song had to be a "banger". With Gerrit Welmers' effortlessly catchy keyboard riffs, William Cashion's driving bass and Herring's heartfelt lyrics – passionately delivered with a swivel of his hips and a drop to the floor – these indie rockers are going from strength to strength.
Fifth album The Far Field was released in 2017; landing in the UK top 20 and receiving much critical acclaim. The band played a massive 117 live concerts in 2017 and show no signs of slowing down in 2018 after announcing another UK and European tour throughout 2018.
