First Aid Kit: international hit makers

Born near Stockholm in the early 90s, music was ingrained into the genes of this sibling duo whose father was a former member of hit Swedish rock pop group Lolita Pop. Their musical talents were encouraged from a young age with the girls having access to their father's home studio, resulting in Klara producing her first song, "Femton mil I min Barbie bil" by the age of six. The pair grew up on a diet of American folk and country music which included Bright Eyes, Gary Numan and Bob Dylan.

By 2007, the duo had started to cause murmurs in Sweden's music scene after uploading their songs to MySpace and receiving large amounts of national airtime for single "Tangerine": which was labelled one of the best songs of summer 2007. Championed by Karin Dreijer Andersson, one half of Swedish electro duo The Knife, the pair soon signed to Rabid Records under an unusual contract that allowed the sisters to have complete control over their music and album art. Their fame exploded with a YouTube cover of Fleet Foxes' "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" and they soon attracted the attention of Jack White who asked the folk performers to record a single for his Third Man Records.
