Asgeir Trausti was born in 1992, but he's already a 21st-century star. His handsome looks and poetic lyrics have helped him become a sensation in his native Iceland. Now he's ready to bring his unique brand of melodic folk music to the rest of the world with the Asgeir Trausti Band.

His upcoming tour will take him across the US, including stops at the Lincoln Hall in Chicago, the Larimer Lounge in Denver, and two shows at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Asgeir will head north from there, playing in San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland, before moving on to concerts in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and San Diego. After this American tour, he'll go back home for a concert in his native Iceland, then to Denmark, three cities in Germany, five cities in France, plus Luxembourg and Belgium. Asgeir will next make his way to the UK, performing at Komedia in Brighton, The Fleece in Bristol, and 02 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. He'll continue to play almost every night as he flies up to Scandinavia, with two shows in Sweden and six in Norway. After touring Europe, Asgeir will travel around the world to play from coast to coast in Australia and then Tokyo and Osaka in Japan before returning to the US. Asgeir will also make a Midwestern journey through Milwaukee, St. Louis, and Chicago.

Trivia

Asgeir has become so famous that he now usually uses just his first name as a recording artist. Apparently, ten percent of the people in Iceland own a copy of his debut album. Also, Asgeir sought the help of American musician John Grant while he was translating his lyrics for the English version re-release of In the Silence.

Singer

Asgeir Trausti not only sings and plays guitar, but he's also a capable pianist and arranges the ambient electronic aspects of his music. When he's not recording or performing as a solo act, he's playing guitar for The Lovely Lion. He has also worked with Icelandic hip hop star Blaz Roca.

Breakthrough

Asgeir didn't need long to breakout as a chart-topping musician. He released his first album in 2012 at age 20, with a title that translates to "Glory in the Silence of Death." It soon set the record as the best selling album in the history of Iceland. He remade the album with vocals in English and the title In the Silence, which came out in early 2014 and has charted in countries from Denmark to Australia.

Hit Albums

Asgeir's first album, called Dýrð í dauðaþögn in Icelandic, was a smash hit in his home country. Three singles from this album vaulted to a number one ranking on the charts in Iceland, including "Leyndarmál," which had a six week reign at the top. He collaborated on a Christmas song with Blaz Roca that remained at number one for nine weeks during the holiday season of 2012-13.
