A City and its Team: Thriving and Surviving
Almería is a city steeped in history. Situated in the autonomous community of Andalusia, it was founded by Calipha Abd-ar-Rahman III of Cordoba, who built the Alcazaba, or Citadel, upon which Almería's name is based: Al-Mari'yah, or, the watchtower. By the 10th and 11th centuries, the city built considerable wealth in trade and the textile industry, before falling to Christian domination in the late 1400s and being completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1522. Rebuilding didn't properly commence until the 19th century, and after being ravaged once again during the Spanish Civil War, Almería became recognised as one of Europe's main vegetable producers, regaining its economy in the modern day. Almería FC didn't come about until the midst of this modern period. It was founded in 1989 and suffered a shaky start in and out of the Segunda División, Segunda Divisíon B and the Tercera Divisíon, Spain's second, third and fourth tier football leagues. In the 2006-07 season, they finally made it to the top flights of La Liga and produced some staggering performances for a club its size the following year. Can they continue to defy the odds? There's only one way to find out! Almería FC tickets are available to buy and sell via StubHub now!
A Rollercoaster Ride in La Liga
It was Unai Emery who led this Almería FC team to its La Liga success. Best known for his managerial stints at Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain and a move to Arsenal in May 2018, Emery achieved 8th place with Almería FC, along with his star player and top goal scorer álvaro Negredo, before moving on to Valencia CF. The next highlight for the squad was reaching the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in the 2010-11 season, where they were thrashed by a savage Barcelona FC 0-8 on aggregate. An unsettled couple of years followed, yet they returned to La Liga ready to fight again! Almería FC will always be ready to fight. History proves that it's in their blood. They're survivors and battle-hardened warriors, which you can see live in action, with Almería FC tickets now available to buy and sell via StubHub!
