Steve Rothery Band Tickets: British-Style Rock
The Steve Rothery Band is a progressive/neo-progressive rock band. Founded in 2013, it features a lead guitarist and four other musicians who each bring unique skills and talents to the table.
Schedule
Whilst locations do vary, the band frequently puts shows on in the United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Italy. Venues include Band on the Wall in Manchester, Bush Hall in London, Oran Mor in Glasgow and Crossroads in Rome.
Trivia
Hoping to share his love of the guitar with others, Steve Rothery came up with the idea of a music school that would allow some of music's greats to share their knowledge with others. That idea came to fruition in 2011, when he founded the British Guitar Academy. Besides Rothery, well-known musicians such as Rob Harris and Dave Foster have taught there. The school makes use of classes and workshops to not only teach guitar techniques but also to inspire creativity.
Band
Founder Steve Rothery, lead guitarist and songwriter, was born in 1959 in South Yorkshire, England. He had an early interest in music, and started playing the guitar when he was only 15 years old. Rothery auditioned to play lead guitar for Marillion in 1979 and earned the spot, going on to make multiple albums with the band. Though he still plays with Marillion, he took on a project of his own called the Wishing Tree in 2006. Under that project, he released two albums, Carnival of Souls and Ostara, which featured his instrumentals and the vocals of singer Hannah Stobart.
After much enthusiastic prodding from fans and a several-year wait, Rothery decided to release his first album under a band sharing his name. Rothery is the front man, with Dave Foster playing the guitar, Leon Parr on the drums, Yatim Halimi on the bass and Riccardo Romano on the keyboard.
Each band member also has other projects, Foster is guitarist for Mr. So & So, and Parr teaches drum students in Manchester whilst also playing drums for Mr. So & So and Johnson House. Halimi plays the bass for Panic Room and Romano plays the keyboard for Ranestrane, an Italian band.
Breakthrough
It was frontman Steve Rothery's time with Marillion that provided the breakthrough for his later band. The album Script for a Jester's Tears, released in 1983, made it to the top 10 of the UK Albums chart, brought Marillion loads of attention and paved the way for Rothery to go solo with his own band.
Hit Albums
The band's debut album, Ghosts of Pripyat, released in 2014 and that same year also saw the release of Live in Rome, a CD recorded live during the band's second time performing together.
When the band released its first album, it had an abundance of fans already lined up and waiting to hear it. In fact, many of those fans helped the album come to fruition, as the band sought crowdfunding to pay for it rather than going the traditional record label route. The album released to rave reviews from Dave Bradbery of Planet Mosh and Cack Blabbath.
Show Experience
At a Steve Rothery Band concert, fans can sit and take in the haunting melodies and provoking guitar solos. The band's performance is calm and confident, with each member handling his instrument masterfully whilst also managing to mesh with the other band members. If you have tickets, you can expect a smooth, mellow good time with colorful light show elements to enhance the band's on-stage appeal.
