Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Troye Sivan Mellet moved to Perth, Australia at two years old and showed talents for music and acting throughout his childhood. In 2007, he started uploading videos of himself singing to YouTube, quickly catching the attention of music lovers all over the world, including his future manager. The year also saw him make it to the finals of television show StarSearch and in 2008 - at just 12 years of age - he released his debut EP Dare to Dream. The burgeoning star's acting career also took off in this period after he was cast as the young James Howlett in Hollywood movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

After also starring in a film adaptation of John van de Ruit's novel Spud in 2010, the rising star's singing career really began to take off when he was signed to EMI Australia. In 2014 he released his first official EP, TRXYE, which debuted in the iTunes charts at number one in more than 55 countries and also landed on the Billboard 200 at number five. His success continued in 2015 with another EP, WILD, which was cited as an opening instalment to his debut album. Three video concepts accompanied the piece, telling the story of a forbidden love and setting the tone for an album filled with songs of truth and heartbreak. Blue Neighbourhood dropped in December 2015, receiving exceptional praise across the board, and hinting at a huge career ahead.
