Armin Van Buuren: celebrated trance DJ releases sixth album Embrace

Host of the phenomenally successful radio show A State of Trance with over 20 million weekly listeners across the globe, Dutch DJ and producer Armin Van Buuren has brought his favoured music to the masses and currently holds the number three spot in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs fan poll – having previously sat at the top spot for four consecutive years.

Armin Van Buuren: from university clubs to the headline stage

Inspired by electronic music composer Jean Michel Jarre, Leiden-born Van Buuren started developing his sound when he was 14 and had already found work as a DJ in Club Nexus by the time he reached university; often playing sets of over six hours. After the release of early singles "Blue Fear" and "Communication", he began working with Dave Lewis, who promptly introduced him to the UK and US DJ scene. His stock rose quickly, and he was soon playing regularly at UK venues such as Passion, Ministry of Sound and Godskitchen. Initially varying his style from uplifting to progressive trance, by the early 2000s he had evolved, producing works of progressive house with his own label Armind.

2001 would see the DJ start A State of Trance, a radio show that features across multiple stations and is still running today with weekly listeners topping 20 million. He released his debut album 76 two years later and was voted number three in DJ Magazine's Top 100 list. Second album Shivers followed in 2005 and saw collaborations with UK singer Justine Suissa and American duo Gabriel and Dresden. He would also collaborate with other artists for the 250th and 300th episode of his popular radio show in the following two years, before finally reaching number one in the DJ Magazine poll.

Third album Imagine hit the number one spot in the Netherlands, and by 2010 it was announced he would be awarded with the Golden Harp by BUMA/STEMRA for his contribution to Dutch music. By 2014 he had released two further albums in Mirage and Intense, celebrated the 600th episode of his radio show, and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording. In 2015, he dropped sixth album Embrace, led by single "Another You" (feat. Mr. Probz) which would give him his second number one in the Dutch charts.
