Status Quo Biography

The group was founded by Frances Rossi and Alan Lancaster, who went to school together in the south-east London district of Catford. After discovering their mutual love for music, they decided to start a band. Over the years the group's name would change many times, with past monikers including The Scorpions, The Spectres, Traffic and Traffic Jam before they finally settled on the name that would gain them recognition in 1967. Later that year they took on guitarist Rick Parfitt and released memorable hit 'Pictures of Matchstick Men', which charted at number seven in the UK singles chart.

Their landmark moment came upon signing with record label Vertigo in 1972, with album Piledriver presenting a heavier sound than the psychedelic music they had become known for. After the release of the 1976 effort Blue For You, the band had officially become one of the biggest in the world. Since then, they have headed out on hugely successful world tours and written some unforgettable tunes, with Rossi and Parfitt awarded OBEs in 2010 for their contribution to music.
