"Voivod Tickets
The Canadian rock band Voivod has had a long and prolific career. The group began creating speed metal in 1984 by publishing 'War and Pain', which was very commercially successful for a brand new band. Since then, many studio albums have followed, all imbued with elements of progressive metal and thrash metal, which are the pillars of their unique sound. The Voivod is a vampire-knight-android in a post-nuclear age. Inspired by a Transylvanian legend, this anti-hero is straight out of the imagination of Michel Langevin, the group's drummer, author and illustrator. The character evolves by metamorphosing from one Voivod album to another, which only adds to the band's intrigue even more.
Schedule
Voivod stages many of their performances in Canada, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, UK, United States, Slovakia, Mexico, Norway at many venues, tours and festivals on a regular basis. They are often featured on progressive rock and heavy metal music tours worldwide such as the "Through Space and Grind Tour" where they have played alongside Napalm Death and Exhumed at Oakland Opera House in Oakland and the House of Blues in West Hollywood. They are also on the program of many major international music festivals worldwide like the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain and the Temples Festival in Bristol, UK.
Trivia
In 2002, the group created quite the sensation by recruiting Jason Newsted on bass, original member of the popular American band Metallica from 1986 to 2001. The quartet found themselves once more under the spotlight in 2006 when their song 'The X-Stream' appeared in the video game 'Guitar Hero II'.
Band
Formed in the province of Québec, Canada, Voivod started their musical activities by providing a speed metal formula that never ceases to evolve to this day. Influenced by the new wave of British heavy metal, the booming punk-hardcore scene and the progressive rock of the 70s, Denis Bélanger (vocals), Denis d'Amour (guitar), Jean-Yves Thériault (bass) and Michel Langevin (drums) literally invented their own style. This unique style that owes much to the unusual technique of its historical guitarist Denis d'Amour, who died in 2005, and texts sailing between lyrical themes, post-apocalyptic literature and science fiction.
Breakthrough
The success of the group broke through in 1989 with Nothingface, the album that got them on the Billboard 200 for the first time, propelling them to the 114th position.
Hit Albums
After nearly thirty years of music boasting fifteen studio albums, including War and Pain, Katorz, Infinity, and Warriors of Ice, the EP Thrashing Rage, the live album Lives, and the DVD Tatsumaki: Voivod Japan 2008, Voivod is an indisputable part of the legend of metal.
Show Experience
Voivod shows are comprised of energetic performances and tangy airs. The group often fill venues to the brim, and up the adrenaline with their sound resembling an intergalactic echo. 'Ripping Headache' is usually among the first songs they play in order to rile up the crowd. When on stage, the group owns its metal sound with skill and aplomb; the accuracy of the musicians is always visible and audible, particularly when they play 'Tribal Convictions'. With aplomb, Voivod assumes its metal and the whole is skillful. The accuracy of the musicians is visible and audible, and their songs prove the group's ability to combine the strangest metal with more progressive sounds.
