About Vikki Carr
Vikki Carr is the stage name for Florencia Bisenta de Casillas Martinez Cardona, who was born in El Paso, Texas. As Vikki Carr, this three-time Grammy Award-winning talent has utilized her ability to sing beautifully in Spanish to build quite the name for herself. In 1962, Vikki Carr signed with Liberty Records and immediately had a hit on her hands. The song "He's a Rebel" reached the top of the charts in Australia and on the charts in the United States. Interestingly, the producer Phil Spector release a cover version of the song that was billed to The Crystals, which reached number one on the charts.

Vikki Carr was clearly a talented musician and was recognized by those who watched her perform. She traveled to Vietnam with Danny Kaye to entertain American troops who were stationed overseas. The following year, she released the album It Must Be Him. The album was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards and the song "It Must Be Him" reached the number three slot on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The Recording Industry Association of America recognized the album as Gold. There were two additional songs that made it to the top of the charts: "The Lesson" and "With Pen in Hand." She received praise from fellow performers as well as the fans that kept purchasing her albums and listening to her songs. According to Dean Martin in the late 1960s, Vikki Carr was "the best girl singer in the business." It is no surprise that the artist had ten singles on the pop charts in the United States, along with thirteen albums. Vikki Carr was a well sought after performer. She was asked to perform on 6 specials for London Weekend TV and was on ABC's The Bing Crosby Show. The Los Angeles Times recognized her as the "Woman of the Year" in 1970. She was even fortunate to have guest-hosted with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. In the early 1980s, Vikki Carr received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. What is more is that Vikki Car is one of few musical artist that has performed for five presidents: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Bill Clinton. In addition to great recognition in the United States, Vikki Carr has received acknowledgement for her talent in the Latin music industry because of her songs sang in the Spanish language. The Spanish-language albums have also received gold and platinum status.

Vikki Carr is known for being a humanitarian, in addition to an artist. Over the years, she has devoted much of her time and resources to supporting the United Way, American Lung Association, Muscular Dystrophy Association and St. Jude's Hospital. For more than 22 years, she has continuously put on a concert in San Antonio, Texas in support of Holy Cross High School and offers the Vikki Carr Scholarship Foundation provided to Hispanic students in California and Texas. The scholarships have totaled more than a quarter million dollars.

Vikki Carr has been performing since going on the road in 1959, which is about 55 years. Vikki Carr explains what she has been doing to Broadway World, "I've been doing concerts. My whole thing is trying to present who I am, a Mexican American who had success in English, and thanks to that success, I was able to record the first all Spanish album […] I want to do the show of who I am. I'm able to, thank God, draw all kinds of people to my concerts. It's the whole thing: Are you an entertainer? Can you tell stories? Can you make people laugh? Do they feel it? Do they cry with you? Now, at this stage of my career, my whole idea is I'm going to be who I am and have always been, not having to apologize for it."
