A brief history of USA Hockey

Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the organisation was founded in New York City in 1937 as the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States (AHAUS) with the mission of promoting the growth of ice hockey in the country and supporting/sponsoring national teams at all levels of international competition. USA Hockey's commitment to youth development programmes

Much of the success of the senior teams can be attributed to the commitment that USA Hockey has made to invest in youth training centres to develop talent across the country. The National Team Development Program (NTDP) headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan, is the centrepiece of this effort. Here, youth programs are equipped with skills and training in preparation for advancement to the national senior squads by participating in the NCAA hockey tournament and other international competitions. Past graduates of the NTDP include Rick DiPietro and John-Michael Liles. USA Hockey has also made an investment in developing coaches and officials through educational clinics to assist in the overall effort of promoting the growth of the sport.
