The formation of Inverness CT
When the Highland League clubs of Inverness Thistle and Caledonian merged to play in the SPFL as Inverness CT in 1994, it was proposed that a new, state-of-the-art stadium was to be built as part of the deal. Until 1996, the newly formed club played its home games at Telford Street Park as a site was found and construction began. After numerous financial struggles, the stadium was finally open for business and hosted its first SPFL game that resulted in a 1-1 draw against Albion Rovers FC. At that time, 5,000 fans could watch the game from inside, although with extensions over the years this number grew to over 7,000. In 1997, the first international match was played at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium and the following year, fixtures of the European Under-16 Championships were held there. The site was the host of Group D and also saw Portugal vs. Israel in the quarter-finals. For such a small venue, this place has certainly seen some action! With its picturesque setting and sideline seating, it’s the ideal place to kick back and watch a local game of football. Use StubHub to buy or sell Tulloch Caledonian Stadium tickets right now!
Expansion and turn as a concert venue
By the time 2004 rolled around, Inverness CT had earned promotion to the heights of Scottish football - the Scottish Premier League - where they would come up against the likes of world-famous clubs such as Rangers and Celtic F.C.. However, they faced a problem. Their stadium did not meet the SPL requirements of having 10,000 seats. The club made an agreement with Aberdeen FC to share their ground as redevelopments took place at Tulloch Caledonian. Two new stands were constructed at either end of the pitch, making it an all-seater stadium. In 2008, it saw a record attendance of 7,753 in a match up against Rangers. The stadium has also hosted a number of concerts, with Elton John, Rod Stewart and Westlife having performed there. Whatever your reason for heading to this wonderful stadium, it’s sure to offer a time to remember. Don’t forget to pick up your Tulloch Caledonian Stadium tickets via StubHub.
