From Van Morrison to Grammy Awards

British outfit The James Hunter Six consists of keyboardist Andrew Kingslow, saxophonists Damian Hand and Lee Badau, bassist Jason Wilson, drummer Jonathan Lee, and, of course, singer, songwriter and guitarist James Hunter. The line-up first came together in the mid-1990s when Hunter began to assemble a permanent backing band for his various touring commitments. Hunter, who began his career in R&B band Howlin' Wilf and the Vee-Jays in the mid-1980s, was a regular collaborator withVan Morrison, often touring with the Irish veteran and guesting on several of his recordings. He also later picked up a Best Traditional Blues Album nomination at the Grammy Awards for his 2006 LP, People Gonna Talk. Hunter decided to release 2013's Minute by Minute under the guise of The James Hunter Six through Universal Records, and later that year, the newly-credited group signed to regular producer Gabriel Roth's Daptone label. The band released their official sophomore, Hold On!, in 2016 and followed it up two years later with the acclaimed Whatever It Takes.
