The Family Crest Tickets
Originally conceived of as a recording project in 2008, The Family Crest is an American indie rock band. Based in San Francisco, the group was formed by their frontman, Liam McCormick, as a project to connect musicians to the wider community. As such, there are literally hundreds of people who contribute to The Family Crest's sound. The idea is that everyone is inherently musical and can make a contribution to the band's sound.
Alongside McCormick, who takes lead vocals and plays the guitar, the other main members include John Seeterlin on bass, with Charlie Giesige completing the rhythm section on drums. Laura Bergmann provides flute sounds, percussion and vocals, with George Samaan playing the trombone. The other two principal musicians in the band are Owen Sutter, who plays violin, and Charly Akert on cello.
The Family Crest describe their sound as orchestral rock, but they fuse other genres into their performances. Jazz harmonies are often heard and the band includes elements of classical music as well as folk. The project first performed as a live outfit in February 2010.
The Family Crest career milestones
As a recording project, Liam McCormick and his co-founder John Seeterlin spent much of their initial time together attracting people to take part in The Family Crest. Using promotional flyers, Internet advertisements and personal contacts, they ended up recording about a hundred different contributors for a song named “Falling off the Wagon”. The huge ensemble needed for the song never actually all got together at the same time – the recordings tended to be conducted in people's homes and churches, as well as small recording studios. However, the song achieved a good deal of local airplay and sections of it were used for TV ads. Other early recordings were used by technology manufacturers to launch new products, and the idea of a performing band to go alongside the recording project was formed.
The Family Crest self-released their first EP, Songs From the Valley Below, to the public in 2010. It was reissued the following year, having been both remixed and remastered. In January 2011, the band produced their first album, a limited edition LP, titled the Village. This work was subsequently released on an international basis. Both of these releases were mixed at the Bernie Grundman Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
A second album, Beneath the Brine, was released following a crowdfunding exercise. This went on to reach number 16 in the US Billboard Heatseekers chart. A further EP, entitled Prelude to War, followed in 2017.
