Simply Dylan Tickets
The Times are A-Changin' with Simply Dylan
If you are a fan of Bob Dylan, then tickets to Simply Dylan are a must-have for this year. Led by the extraordinarily talented John O'Connell, this band does not just cover Bob Dylan's songs; they work on interpreting his art and creating a new experience for fans. Some covers are faithful, others are more complex, but they all provide new insight to Dylan's music.
Simply Dylan will be performing throughout the UK at venues including Glasgow's famous Oran Mor, Norwich's Epic Studios, and the Kings Place Theatre in London. The tour runs throughout the year, and will be making its way to at least ten venues. There is the potential for more dates to be added, but remember that this band is best enjoyed in an intimate setting; they won't be playing any arena gigs! If you want tickets to Simply Dylan, it's best to book them early.
Simply Dylan started in 2011, when John O'Connell decided to pay tribute to Bob Dylan on the great man's 70th birthday. The event was such a success that the band was launched almost straight away, with John as their enthusiastic frontman. They've been gigging and touring ever since.
John O'Connell was one of the guitarists in well-respected folk and bluegrass band Groundpig. He is a fixture of the Liverpool music scene, playing one-off gigs, solo residencies, and much more. John performs lead vocals and guitar in Simply Dylan, which has a total of 18 members. Bass guitarist James Meall takes care of the rhythm, ably supported by three drummers: Mark Byrne, Sam Lubin, and John Leggett.
John has backup from James Smith on lead guitar in addition to Joe Kenny, Phil Larkin, and Adam Dawson on keyboards. Adding that old-time folk feeling are Philippe Desodt on piano, Rachel Jones on violin, and Frank Dennis on harmonica. It's also worth looking out for backing vocalists Charlotte Andrew and Jo Richards, who play violin and fiddle respectively. Finally, the rest of the backing vocal team is made up of Kellyann Lea, Lisa Ray, Laura James, and Laura Mottershead.
After their initial breakthrough performances in 2011, Simply Dylan sold out Liverpool's famous Cavern Club (home of The Beatles) no less than five times, to critical acclaim.
Not only are they at the top of the Liverpool folk scene, but they are also known throughout the UK. Simply Dylan has received rave reviews from the Chester Chronicle, Tyneside's Journal, the Bob Dylan newsletter known as the Desolation Row Information Service, and veteran musicians like The Farm's Peter Hooton. They also have some devoted fans among the Liverpool Bob Dylan Society. After a six-date tour in Spain, Spanish publications like Zarautz sang their praises too.
This band is best appreciated live, so they don't have any albums recorded as yet. However, if you want a preview before you commit to buying Simply Dylan tickets, check out the videos the group made of their performances online.
Despite the large group on stage, the Simply Dylan experience manages to be stripped down, simple, and warm. The atmosphere is electric, with John O'Connell's fantastic voice leading the band in melodic, enthusiastic renditions of Dylan's most beloved tracks. Simply Dylan doesn't spend a lot of time on lighting effects or chatting with the crowd; they simply get on with making great music that any fan of folk (whether they love Bob Dylan or not) will never forget.
