Growing up on the outskirts of Paris, the French vocalist was exposed to a range of musical influences throughout her upbringing. Her father is from the French island of Martinique in the West Indies and Caribbean music surrounded Shy'm during her childhood. Developing an early passion for performance, she took up dance classes after finishing school and soon focused her energy towards her singing career. Her stage name plays on the fact that her personality is rather shy and timid, however she has grown a confidence in the spotlight and always creates a captivating atmosphere at her shows. Throughout her years of performing, she has played shows at some of France's most iconic venues, including Zenith de Paris and Halle Tony Garnier. She teamed up with American rap megastar Kid Ink on the song ‘Mayday' as part of her 2017 album ‘Héros', helping expand her appeal in overseas markets. A gradual musical development
In 2005, she featured on the song ‘Histoires de Luv' by French rapper ‘K. Maro', which sold more than 120,000 copies and propelled her solo career. Her debut studio album, ‘Mes Fantaisies', was released the following year and received critical acclaim. The album peaked at #6 on French charts and was entirely produced by ‘K. Maro'. A continuously evolving artist, Shy'm explored more of an electro pop style with her fourth album ‘Caméléon' in 2012. The 11-track release was immensely popular, topping the French charts, claiming the #3 spot on Belgian charts and going triple platinum. It included hit songs ‘Et alors', ‘Et si' and ‘On se fout de nous', which became dancefloor classics in France and around the world. With prevalent dubstep influences, she announced a new frontier for her career and was awarded Female Artist of the Year for NRJ Radio's French-speaking section.
