Santigold - Superstar Singer Back With New Album and UK Live Dates
Following an extensive US tour, this celebrated American singer will be making her way to our shores in June for three live dates, debuting her new album 99¢ - an exuberant pop record that subtly criticises the celebrity generation in which we live by simultaneously embracing it. The extravagant performer is known for her incredible stage presence and by drawing from genres like reggae, ska and dub, her sound is so unique that critics often struggle to make comparisons. It makes for a great live set so don't miss her when she plays select dates in the UK this summer - get Santigold tickets on StubHub UK now.
Santigold Biography - 99¢ Finds Critical Acclaim
Santi White took her pseudonym from a nickname given by friends and began her career working behind the scenes as an A&R executive for Epic Records. It wasn't long however before she began to make her own strides in the industry as the lead singer of punk-rock band Stiffed. The band would release two albums to moderate success before she was picked up by producer Martin Smith who saw her potential as a solo artist. Under the moniker of Santogold, her first singles, 'Creator' and 'L.E.S. Artistes', made waves on the internet and by the time her self-titled debut album dropped she had found quite a following for her original brand of pop. She ended up with a number six spot on Rolling Stone Magazine's albums of the year list and after a slight alteration to her name she would go on to secure spots at top festivals like Lollapalooza.
By 2012, and after working with the likes of Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio, she released her sophomore effort Master of My Make-Believe, an eclectic record that met with critical acclaim, along with tracks like 'Disparate Youth' finding feature spots in multiple television advertisements. The singer went on to tour with the likes of Kanye West, Jay Z and even Red Hot Chili Peppers - each time drawing in the crowds with an energetic opening set. The next few years were spent collaborating with and writing for other artists including Mark Ronson, Lily Allen, M.I.A and Basement Jaxx, along with hitting the studio to start work on her next solo record 99¢. Preceding its release with single 'Can't Get Enough of Myself' the album came out in February 2016 with an accompanying music video which allowed viewers to put themselves into the song - with the intention to emphasise modern culture's need for self-promotion. To celebrate she has announced four live dates in the UK this June - so grab your Santigold tickets now to avoid disappointment.
