Rejjie Snow - Dear Annie Warrants the Hype
Hailing from Dublin, this young emcee first showed off his unique style of rap in 2013 on experimental mixtape Rejovich. Promoting a back to basics sound, tracks like 'Lost in Empathy' provide a contrast in the lyrical exploration of hard hitting topics, framed by slow piano melodies and simple bass lines. Taking inspiration from the likes of MF Doom, this rapper's material has divided critics, but for those who spot the subtle nuances and references to Ireland's tumultuous history, it's easy to see why debut album Dear Annie has brought about waves of excitement through the music community. He will perform the new tracks at London's KOKO in March, so catch your chance to see this unique artist live - get Rejjie Snow tickets from StubHub UK.
Rejjie Snow Biography - Controversial Wordsmith Making Waves in Modern Rap
Alex Anyaegbunam was born in Dublin, Ireland but would move to America in 2011 to play soccer on an athletics scholarship at Montverde Academy in Florida, before briefly studying film and design in Georgia. After moving back to Ireland to focus on his music, he began working under the name Lecs Luther and released a video for 'Dia Dhuit', a track which saw the influences of MF Doom first appear, before the traditional MC character was ditched in favour of more sophisticated wordplay and controversial lyrics. His 2013 EP Rejovich would top the iTunes hip hop charts in his home country, knocking both Kanye West and J. Cole off the number one spot.
Despite initial success, the rapper would not return to the scene until 2015 when he dropped single 'All Around the World', with a video starring Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose. It found support with Annie Mac of BBC Radio 1, quickly gaining hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. His new material showed a newfound confidence, taking musical risks he feels are seldom seen in pop nowadays. First album Dear Annie drops in 2016 and the talented MC has been careful not to reveal too much, stating that he may even re-record parts to make it better. With topics covering love and death, it is sure to be as politically charged as his previous work.
