O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire
Build in 1903 to stage music hall entertainments such as the circus and comedy performers like Charlie Chaplin, this building was a popular venue up until the early 1950s when it was sold to the BBC, who renamed it as the BBC Television Theatre. From 1953 to 1991 the venue saw programmes from That's Life! to The Generation Game produced on its grounds, starring the likes of Cliff Richard, Lulu and Shirley Bassey. In 1993 it was taken over by entrepreneur Andrew Mahler, who invested over £1 million into refurbishments. In 1994, the site was reopened under its original name, and it has hosted music and club nights ever since.
