No, it's not the title of the latest spy thriller, but a psychedelic rock band created by the former drummer of Pink Floyd who has gathered several veteran musicians to pay homage to the early work of the famous group that has delighted fans far and wide. Capture the spirit of early Pink Floyd
Years after the seminal rock band played its last concert show in 2005, drummer Nick Mason assembled a compilation of the group's earlier work and hit upon the idea of reproducing many of the songs from that magical time and out of this, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets was born, taking its name from the 1968 Pink Floyd album of the same name. Bringing together a group of veteran musicians that included Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt, the group made its debut at Dingwalls in London during the spring of 2018, featuring material from the years 1965-1972, such as 'Arnold Layne', 'Let There Be More Light' and 'Interstellar Overdrive', much of which Mason composed. A European tour followed in the autumn of that year, which saw the band perform in Sweden, France and Germany as part of a 12-country itinerary that was very favourably received by critics and audiences alike. If you like Nick Mason, you can also check out Steve Hackett, Ringo Starr and Roger Waters. Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets tickets are available now for purchase or sale via StubHub.
Celebrate Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets in concert
Although Nick Mason himself may not consider this group a tribute band, it is exactly that nonetheless and there should be no shame in it either. The selected playlist, which covers the experimental nascent years of the original band, provides an opportunity for this group of accomplished players to breathe new life into Pink Floyd classics rarely heard and they do so with intensity, energy and imagination. Kemp steps into the role once held by Syd Barrett and David Gilmour and is laudable on vocals, but especially on lead guitar, wowing spectators with his interpretations of the former frontmen, and Pratt, a former Pink Floyd collaborator, tickles the bass as though time stood still. The overall effect routinely leaves audiences stunned, erupting in enthusiastic appreciation for their efforts. Whether you are a long-time fan of Pink Floyd or simply have a hankering for the early days of classic rock, then this band should certainly make your list of gigs to attend when they appear at a nearby venue.
