Neil Finn Biography - Playing to a Crowded House

This performer was first introduced to music by his parents, who encouraged sing-alongs round the family piano. Inspired by his brother's own perusal of musical instruments, the singer was a natural performer, eventually earning the nickname of 'The Ant' for his determined approach to music. At just 12 years old he made the decision to pursue a career in music, often performing at hospitals and prisons whilst at school. After the break-up of his brother's moderately successful group Split Enz, the singer decided to form his own band, The Mullanes. After they became Crowded House, they went on to become a worldwide sensation, penning multiple international Top 10 hits such as upbeat tracks 'Don't Dream It's Over' and 'Weather With You'. Their touching lyrics and Neil's trademark soft voice became the soundtrack to a generation of upcoming musicians and eventually saw the Finn brother's receive OBEs for their services to New Zealand's music scene. After breaking up in 1996 the singer went solo, releasing two critically acclaimed albums including 2001's One Nil.
