The youngest member of British boy band The Wanted is going out on his own, and his new musical direction has received rave reviews from the press and music fans.
Schedule
Nathan Sykes embarked on his first solo tour with six intimate live dates around the UK. This took place ahead of the premiere of his debut single Kiss Me Quick. The tour ended with a performance in front of fans and influential media at the iconic London music venue, Bush Hall. Look out for an announcement on his next tour dates.
Trivia
Nathan studied at the famous Sylvia Young Theatre School in London, where alumni include Amy Winehouse and Rita Ora. He also had a few brushes with fame as a child. In 2004, he performed an original song in the contest to represent the UK in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. He also appeared on children's TV show Ministry of Mayhem, where he won the chance to meet and get a kiss from his pop idol Britney Spears.
Singer
Born in 1993, Nathan Sykes has been a performer from a young age. Before he'd even finished his A Levels, he was spotted and signed to the UK arm of Geffen Records as a member of the five-piece boy band The Wanted. The group achieved success around the world with hits such as All Time Low and Glad You Came. After going their separate ways in 2014, each began embarking on individual solo projects.
While he was a member of The Wanted, Nathan made his first step into a new role as a solo artist. The English singer released a duet with his former girlfriend, American pop superstar Ariana Grande. Their ballad "Almost is Never Enough" was recorded for the soundtrack to the film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and also appeared on Ariana's album Yours Truly. The couple performed the song together when Ariana played a gig for fans and media in London.
Breakthrough
Following The Wanted's announcement of their hiatus in January 2014, Nathan began work on his solo material. He made a surprise appearance at the Capital FM Summertime Ball, performing a duet with UK artist Jessie J on her hit single 'Calling All Hearts'. In 2015, he began promoting his new solo material, and premiered a taster track called 'More Than You'll Ever Know', with a stylish video showing how Nathan has matured since his boy band days. This was followed by the announcement of his official debut single 'Kiss Me Quick' and his first UK solo tour, with tickets selling out for most dates.
Hit Albums
Nathan is yet to release his first solo album, but as a member of The Wanted he achieved three top ten chart placings with the LPs The Wanted, Battleground and Word of Mouth. The first two releases also went Platinum in the UK, which means they each sold over 600,000 copies. Nathan's debut album as a solo artist is expected to be released in 2015, and will feature the work of producers and songwriters such as Babyface and Harmony Samuels.
Show Experience
Nathan's live show as a solo artist is quite different to what his performances in The Wanted involved. His musicianship is clear as he performs with a live band including backing singers. This authentic live setup is important for his new musical direction, which takes influence from soul and R&B music. According to Sugarscape's review of his London gig, the new live show is "all about Nathan's voice and his super-talented band." Nathan Sykes tickets will be hot property this year.
