MiC Lowry Tickets
A vocal harmony group from the city of Liverpool, MiC Lowry is made up of five singing members. A boy band that specialises in pop and R 'n' B music, the group first got going in 2011. As well as Delleile Ankrah, Akia Jones and Kaine Ofoeme, the band is made up of Ben Sharples and Michael Welch. All five of the group met one another and discovered a mutual interest in music when they were students who attended the Calderstones School, located in the Allerton suburb of their home city. The school is notable in Liverpudlian musical history because it was attended by John Lennon, the founding member of the Beatles. His first band was called the Quarrymen, after MiC Lowry's school's original name, Quarry Bank Comprehensive School.
MiC Lowry's career milestones
Having been performing as school children, the members of MiC Lowry soon developed a reputation for vocal harmony singing that was of a more professional standard than most teenage attempts at pop music. Some of the band members have gone on record as saying that one of their earliest gigs – at the prestigious Lowry Centre in Manchester, a venue that is named after the city's most famous painter – gave them the inspiration for the second part of their group's name. However, Mike Lowrey is also the name of a Will Smith character in a 1995 cop movie Bad Boys. As such, the group's moniker appears to be something of a mixture of the film character and the venue's name. It is sometimes styled as MiC LOWRY and sometimes as Mic Lowry.
MiC Lowry won the MOBO Unsung Award in 2014 and followed this up with some radio appearances, notably on BBC Radio 1Xtra, which brought them to the attention of many new fans. The band's first recording to be released was called The Show, in 2015. Released by Universal Records, a major label subsidiary of Vivendi, it was promoted by a single the following year. The track chosen was “Oh Lord”, which got to a respectable 54 in the UK singles chart, a good achievement for a debut. The song was noted for its extensive use of samples from Phil Collins' hit “In the Air Tonight”, which first charted in 1981. “Oh Lord” took both audio and lyrical content from Collin's song.
In March 2017, MiC Lowry put out their second single for public consumption. This track was entitled “Whiskey Kisses” but it failed to chart. The band then returned with “Don't Tempt Me” later in the year. In the meantime, the five-piece was booked for a string of dates, supporting Justin Bieber during the UK and European legs of his Purpose world tour.
