Strallen has starred in previous productions of Cats, Dirty Dancing, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Matthew Bourne's stage production of Cinderella at Sandler's Wells. She is also known for her role in Hairspray. Lee, on the other hand, has played in Mary Poppins before, starring as Bert during the show's opening in Australia. Original Author
The play Mary Poppins is based upon the original Mary Poppins books written by P.L. Travers. An Australian-born novelist of British descent, Travers was born Helen Lyndon Goff. An actress who loved the theatre and starred as Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Goff began using the pen name P.L. Travers after she began to write in England in 1924. She started work on Mary Poppins in 1933, and finished the book soon thereafter, but the famous Disney film adaptation wasn't made until much later, in 1964. Because of her great service to the literary arts, she was hailed an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in the year 1977.
Producers
Mary Poppins has been co-produced by Cameron Mackintosh and Julian Fellowes, the Oscar-winning creator of Downton Abbey. The award-winning scores have been written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, with help from Olivier award-winning musicians lyricists George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Together, the production team has created a show that is truly unforgettable. Chock full of touching moments, beautiful performances and moving songs, the on-stage production of Mary Poppins is one that audiences will not soon forget.
