Everything you need to know about 2020's Giants Live Strongman events.
Giants Live 2020 Arena Tour

The World’s Strongest Man Arena Tour 2020 is Giants Live’s biggest, best, strongest competition series yet — with five dates in the UK and a first-ever American arena show in Florida.

The strongman competition will push the limits of the sport —and its athletes— farther than ever. The 2020 World’s Strongest Man Arena Tour has its first flex on 18 January in Sheffield for the Britain’s Strongest Man tournament and wraps with the World Tour Finals on 10 October in Glasgow, its first Scottish show.

“It’s incredible to think that just 5 years ago we were holding strongman competitions in gym car parks. We’re a small team here, but we love strongman and we had a vision — to build this sport and give the athletes the stage and the glory they deserve,” says Darren Sadler, director of Giants Live.

He adds, “We’ve put so much blood, sweat and tears into making that happen. To see strongman in the spotlight, on the world stage in front of thousands of fans — it’s what we live for, and 2020 is going to be the biggest Tour we’ve ever created!”

There will be six events in The World’s Strongest Man Arena Tour 2020 and some of the biggest names in the sport are expected to be present including Martins Licis and Mateusz Kieliszkowski as well as Icelandic professional strongman and actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson — nicknamed “Thor” and otherwise known as Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane from HBO’s Game of Thrones

Who is the world’s strongest man?

The current world’s strongest man is American strongman Martins Licis, who won the global competition in 2019.

What are the World’s Strongest Man 2020 tour dates?

The 2020 World’s Strongest Man Arena Tour includes five shows in the UK as well as the North American Open in Florida. The first event is the Britain’s Strongest Man competition at the FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield on the 18th January. Around 10,000 fans will see marvels of muscle including the lifting of giant logs and atlas stones, pulling cars and more, with the three top-scoring strongmen earning a spot at the World’s Strongest Man finals.

The next stop on the 2020 World’s Strongest Man tour is Europe’s Strongest Man on 4 April. The competition has been won by Game of Thrones’ star Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson for the last five years in a row and fans are hoping he’ll be back to defend his title. Do you reckon someone can move The Mountain?

The 2020 Europe’s Strongest Man tournament will also include the World Log Lift Challenge as the first event, with Iron Biby and Graham Hicks hoping to make a name for themselves by breaking a record. After that, the tour is on to the Strongman Classic on 6 June at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The 2020 Strongman Classic brings professional weightlifting back to Royal Albert Hall for the first time since the renowned Great Competition in 1901. Next year’s event will take inspiration from its predecessor, with an old-time strongman vibe including antiquated athleticisms like the Pillars of Hercules, Circus Dumbbells and stone carries.

Speaking of the 2020 Strongman Classic, Sadler says, “We couldn’t ask for a more perfect setting to celebrate the oldest sport in the world. To bring our athletes to this iconic venue and the very same stage where Eugen Sandow once stood — it is a significant moment for the sport and will be the crowning jewel in the 2020 World’s Strongest Man Arena Tour.”

In August 2020, the North American Open will go from the streets to a proper stadium event in Florida. This will be Giants Live’s first American arena show and while the final date and venue have yet to be announced.

Come autumn, the Giants Live tour heads to Manchester for the 2020 World Open and World Deadlift Championships on 12 September. There, competitors will try to break British strongman legend Eddie Hall’s record 500 kg lift from 2016.

The final event is the World Tour Finals at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on 10 October. The event is a brand-new tour date and Giants Lives’ first-ever Scottish show, where the planet’s strongest men will come together to fight for the top title.
