Wireless Festival 2021: New dates, location, tickets and more
Don’t call it a comeback — Wireless, one of the UK’s largest hip-hop and urban music festivals, returns to London for an intense 3-day event on 10-12 September
Usually held in July, the festival has confirmed new September dates in line with the government's latest guidelines on the resumption of live events. For this year the festival will also move to a new location: Crystal Palace Park in South London.
The lineup is yet to be announced but the festival has promised that it will be dropping soon. Prior to its unavoidable cancellation in 2020, confirmed headliners include major acts from both sides of the Atlantic: A$AP Rocky, London grime icon Skepta and Meek Mill playing his first-ever British. For its last edition in 2019 the lineup included rap royalty, with the likes of Cardi B, Migos and Travis Scott playing the main stage.
Founded in 2005 with a focus on pop and rock, Wireless has been shifting its lineup towards hip-hop and urban music since 2010. Since becoming one of the best UK festivals, the event has also expanded outside London — with outposts in Leeds, Birmingham and Wireless Festival Germany in Frankfurt.
Wireless Festival faced major complaints from local residents in 2018, which nearly ended the London festival. Haringey Council attempted to impose strict noise restrictions after neighbours moaned about noise, anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and litter damage.
Fortunately, Wireless Festival organisers managed to persuade the authorities to amend its licence rather than revoking it — with new conditions including requests that artists not swear or wear “offensive” clothing, finishing the last day of the UK festival 30 minutes earlier at 21:30 as well as new sound-level limits that will be more heavily monitored.
