The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour gets 2020 UK and Ireland dates
An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour will bring the late pop singer back to arenas across the UK and Ireland for 12 concerts in 2020.
While the original Whitney may no longer be with us, her music is being given a second life through technology and theatrical stagecraft. Her upcoming UK and Ireland dates are being put together by BASE Entertainment in partnership with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston. The American company has previously launched hologram tours for the likes of Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, and has aspirations to do the same for Amy Winehouse.
Pat Houston, Whitney’s former manager and current president and CEO of The Estate of Whitney E. Houston, said in a statement: “Whitney prided herself on her family and that included her fans. She adored her audiences and that’s why we know she would have loved this holographic theatrical concept.”
She continues, “An event at this level is something special and BASE Hologram’s track record to be fully authentic and respectful made them the perfect partner. This upcoming tour will allow audiences to experience Whitney’s amazing voice and passion for music for a long time to come and help them share that magic with future generations.”
The Whitney Houston hologram tour will deliver “state-of-the-art proprietary holographic technology and combined with unmatched Broadway theatrical stagecraft, a live band, back-up singers and dancers set to digitally remastered arrangements of her classic songs” according to NME. It will be directed by celebrated choreographer Fatima Robinson, who has helmed productions like Dream Girls and the Academy Awards as well as music videos for Rihanna, Kanye West and Mary J. Blige.
“Whitney Houston was unquestionably one of the most important singers of any generation,” said Brian Becker, chairman and CEO of BASE Entertainment in a statement. “She was a talent beyond words, and her influence and artistry transcended all boundaries — music, fashion, and film. Her career inspired so many musicians across all genres and generations and we are honored that her family is entrusting part of her legacy to us.”
One of the best-selling vocalists of all time, Houston tragically passed away in February 2012 at age 48. She was the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits, the first female singer to enter the Billboard 200 Album Charts at No. 1 and the only artist with eight consecutive multi-platinum albums.
Houston was also certified by The Guinness World Records as “the most awarded female artist of all time” with over 400 awards including 6 GRAMMYS, 22 American Music Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, two Emmy nominations and one win. The singer has also recently returned to the British charts — her song “Higher Love” was remixed by Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo, and hit No. 2 the UK official singles chart. According to The New York Times, there are also plans to collect some of her unreleased tracks into a new album as well.
