10 Taylor Swift songs that are secretly about other celebrities

Featuring Harry Styles, Tom Hiddleston and Kanye West

Tay Tay is pretty much known for writing songs about her personal life.

But unless you’re some sort of lyrical detective, you might have missed some of the more subtle clues in her songs that point at celebrity breakups and feuds.

Here are 10 Taylor Swift songs that are really about famous people...

1. Look What You Made Me Do is about Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Since the infamous incident when Kanye West interrupted Taylor’s VMA acceptance speech, there has been an ongoing feud between the pair. While the singer hasn’t confirmed that the track throws shade at the rapper, there’s no denying she’s talking about him when she references his “tilted stage”.

I don't like your little games
I don't like your tilted stage
The role you made me play
Of the fool
No, I don't like you

2. ‘Forever and Always’ is about Joe Jonas

Taylor dated the Jonas Brother in 2008 for three months. But when Joe decided to end things in a phone call, the singer took it pretty hard. During an interview on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', Taylor revealed the dumping took place during a 27-second phone call and confirmed the track was about him. She seemingly went on to write a string of songs about the failed romance including the above, ‘Last Kiss’, ‘You’re Not Sorry’ and ‘Holy Ground’.

And I stare at the phone
He still hasn't called
And then you feel so low you can't feel nothing at all
And you flashback to when he said forever and always

3. ‘Back to December’ is about Taylor Lautner

This romance was a bit of a nightmare for the gossip magazine departments responsible for coming up with the next celeb couple portmanteau (you're trying to come up with one, aren't you? Can't be done). Fans long believed the track was written about the ‘Twilight’ star, but the actor confirmed it himself in a Facebook Live session.

I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile, so good to me, so right
And how you held me in your arms that September night
The first time you ever saw me cry
Maybe this is wishful thinking
Probably mindless dreaming
But if we loved again I swear I'd love you right

4. ‘Bad Blood’ is about Katy Perry

Not one to shy away from making famous enemies, Taylor apparently fell out with Katy Perry when the ‘I Kissed a Girl’ singer contracted some dancers for her tour. However, said dancers were already on tour with Taylor - and they left to work with Katy anyway! What followed was a string of cryptic tweets from both parties and discreet shade thrown at each other in interviews.

Did you have to do this?
I was thinking that you could be trusted
Did you have to ruin what was shiny?
Now it's all rusted
Did you have to hit me where I'm weak?
Baby, I couldn't breathe
And rub it in so deep
Salt in the wound like you're laughing right at me

5. ‘Dear John’ is about John Mayer

Didn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out who this one was about... Taylor’s 2010 relationship with John Mayer ended after a few short months. John later reported that the track “humiliated him” and that he “never did anything to deserve it.”

‘The Story of Us’ is also about him.

Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone.
Don't you think I was too young
To be messed with?
The girl in the dress
Cried the whole way home, I should've known

6. ‘Getaway Car’ is about Tom Hiddleston

‘The Avengers’ actor briefly dated Taylor after they met at the 2016 Met Gala. The song seems to reference the event and the fact their relationship began while she was still dating Calvin Harris. The track features on her latest album ‘Reputation’.

He was the best of times, the worst of crimes
I struck a match and blew your mind
But I didn't mean it
And you didn't see it
The ties were black, the lies were white
The shades of grey in candlelight
I wanted to leave him
I needed a reason

7. ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ is about Jake Gyllenhaal

Some say this song is actually about Harry Styles, but celebrity blogger Perez Hilton claims that Taylor wears a scarf and bracelet that were gifts from Jake Gyllenhaal in the video. ‘State of Grace’, ‘Red’, ‘All Too Well’, 'I Almost Do’, ‘The Last Time’ and ‘Sad Beautiful Tragic’ are also said to have been written about the ‘Stronger’ actor.

I remember when we broke up the first time
Saying, "This is it, I've had enough, " 'cause like
We hadn't seen each other in a month
When you said you needed space (What?)
Then you come around again and say
"Baby, I miss you and I swear I'm gonna change, trust me"
Remember how that lasted for a day?
I say, "I hate you," we break up, you call me, "I love you"

8. ‘Style’ is about Harry Styles

Pretty sure Taylor knew fans would speculate about this one… The pair had a very brief relationship in December 2012. The reference to “long hair, slick back, white t-shirt” sounds like a dead ringer for Harry Styles. ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and 'Out of the Woods' are also said to be about the former One Direction star.

You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip, classic thing that you like
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style
You've got that long hair slick back, white t-shirt
And I got that good girl fate and a tight little skirt
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style

9. ‘Dancing With Our Hands Tied’ is about Calvin Harris

A post shared by Calvin Harris (@calvinharris) on

While ‘Getaway Car’ gives reference the end of her relationship with producer and DJ Calvin Harris (and the beginning of her romance with Tom Hiddleston) this track from her latest album ‘Reputation’ seems to about her ex. The lyrics reference her age at the time the pair were dating (25) and an “invisible locket” (Calvin once gave her a locket as a gift). Again, only available on the new album.

I, I loved you in secret
First sight, yeah, we love without reason
Oh, 25 years old
Oh, how were you to know and

10. ‘Mine’ is about Cory Monteith

‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith - who sadly passed away in 2013 - is rumoured to have dated Taylor for a few weeks in 2010. Neither ever confirmed the relationship, but fans are convinced the track refers to their short-lived romance.

Do you remember, we were sitting there by the water?
You put your arm around me for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter
You are the best thing that’s ever been mine
