Kendrick Lamar's second tour of 2018: The Championship Tour

Kendrick Lamar has announced yet another tour for 2018.

The 'Humble' rapper has confirmed that on top of his own tour, he will be headlining 'The Championship Tour' for record label Top Dawg Entertainment.

Kendrick will perform 30 dates across the US in May and June alongside SZA, ScHoolboy QJay RockAb-Soul, SiR and Lance Skiiiwalker.

No news as to whether this tour will extend to the UK, but fingers-crossed!

Is Kendrick banning phones at his UK concerts?

No.

While many sources reported the rapper was joining the likes of Jack White and Noel Gallagher in forbidding fans to enter the venue with their phones, it is apparently untrue.

However, Kendrick has decided not to allow professional photographers into the concert, instead opting to give his record label Top Dawg Entertainment exclusivity on snapping the show.

Kendrick Lamar’s new album ‘Damn’

Kendrick’s fourth studio album went straight to number one and was certified double platinum in July 2017.

The album’s original title was ‘What Happens on Earth, Stays on Earth’, but Kendrick later decided ‘Damn' suited the record better.

He told Big Boy in an interview for Real 92.3, “There was so many different ways you could put it in my head. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. The loudness of the record. When I think about ‘DNA’, when I think of ‘Humble’, when I think about these records, it just felt like that."

Kendrick released the single ‘The Heart Part 4’ in March 2017, which featured the lyric “Y'all got til April the 7th to get y'all shit together", prompting fans to speculate it could mean a new album release date. Sure enough, ‘Damn’ was made available for pre-order on April 7.

Next came the album’s first single ‘Humble’. The track was a smash hit, making its way to number one in the US charts and is a staple of the ‘Damn’ tour setlist.

Kendrick collaborated with Rihanna for the album’s next single ‘Loyalty’. The song features a sample of ‘24K Magic’ by Bruno Mars.

The final single ahead of the album release was ‘Love’ featuring Zacari. The song is considered as an ode to Kendrick’s wife Whitney Alford. After the album was released, Kendrick also posted music videos for ‘DNA’...

...and ‘Element’.

Kendrick dropped the album's fifth video in December 2017. 'LOVE' - which features Zacari - is an ode to his long-time fiancée Whitney Alford.

On top of his own work in 2017, Kendrick has collaborated on tracks ‘Perfect Pint’ with Mike Will Made It (who has a production credit on ‘Damn’), ‘New Freezer’ with Rich the Kid, ‘Get Out of Your Own Way’ with U2 (who also feature on Kendrick’s track ‘XXX’) and 'Don't Don't Do It' with N*E*R*D.

Kendrick Lamar has been confirmed as the producer of the 'Black Panther' soundtrack - and has dropped the first track!

Ryan Coogler, director of the upcoming Marvel film, already featured Kendrick's 'DNA' in the San Diego Comic-Con trailer (unreleased). But now it's been confirmed Kendrick will record new music and curate tracks for the complete album, which is set for release ahead of the film on February 9.

The first track 'All The Stars' features SZA. It was initially released on YouTube as audio only, but was followed up with a stunning video.

The promo is heavily inspired by 'Black Panther' and African culture, intercut with psychedelic scenes.

Kendrick later released another 'Black Panther' track - this time featuring The Weeknd. 'Pray For Me' is the closing track for the soundtrack album.

Here's the full tracklist for the 'Black Panther' soundtrack, including the title track by Kendrick himself and a further four songs he features on.
