Don't Be Your 'Own Worst Enemy': Pick up Lit Tickets
There are few bands from the 1990s/2000s alt-rock movement that have had catchier singles and albums than the California band Lit. Since their inception in the late 1980s, this fun, pop-punk quartet has produced a sterling string of edgy and catchy hits for their fans -- both on records and in person.
Aching to hear some fine, fun 1990s-style alternative pop-punk sounds? You're in luck. Lit is headed back out on tour. It's the perfect time to get Lit tickets and get back to rocking. The band is heading out to England in November; they'll be in Norwich at the Waterfront, in Sheffield at the Corporation and at the O2 Academy 2 in Liverpool.
Lit hails from Fullerton, a town in Orange County, California, and originally played under the names Razzle and Stain (changing their name from the latter when they discovered another band also had that moniker). The famed 1990s sex symbol Pamela Anderson starred in the popular music video for their single, "Miserable."
First getting together all the way back in 1986, the band that would come to be known as Lit (made up of the Popoff brothers, A. Jay and Jeremy, along with Kevin Baldes and Allen Shellenberger), played together under a variety of names, and gained notoriety in the Southern California circuit. Eventually, in 1996, the band settled on the name Lit and began touring and recording. One year later, the band came out with their debut record, Tripping the Light Fantastic. The record produced one single, "Bitter," but disagreements with the record label worked to sink its commercial prospects. In 2008, the band dealt with a terrible tragedy; drummer Allen Shellenberger was stricken with a brain tumour, and passed away in August 2009. The band recruited drummer Nathan Walker as a replacement and reformed to record The View from the Bottom in 2012; produced by veteran rock producer Butch Walker.
Two years after Tripping, they recorded and released their second record, A Place in the Sun. Powered by a fun and spiky pop-punk, alternative sound, the album went to No. 3 on the Billboard charts and produced a string of hit singles. The three singles, "My Own Worst Enemy," "Zip-Lock" and "Miserable," went to No. 1, 11 and 2 respectively on the Modern Rock chart.
Over their distinguished career, Lit has managed to put out an enviable string of hit records - most notably the fun, poppy and endearingly popular A Place in the Sun from 1999. One of the true landmark records of the era's pop-punk revival, A Place in the Sun contains plenty of the radio-friendly singles the band became known for. The same fun, punky philosophy also shone through their beloved Atomic record in 2001, another fan favourite. Atomic had three successful singles: "Over My Head," "Lipstick and Bruises," and "Addicted." They followed Atomic with a self-titled album in 2004.
If you've secured Lit tickets, you're in for the most head-bangingly fun time you could have with a modern pop-punk band. Lit's devoted fans fill the venue with loud cheers as they shout out the lyrics of the poppy songs, and the band provides plenty of live-wire energy and big, crunchy guitar riffs around their hit singles.
