Lion King Appleton Tickets
The Lion King Appleton TicketsBased on the immensely popular 1994 Disney movie of the same title, The Lion King first took Broadway by storm in 1997. That first incarnation of the musical is still showing, making it the third longest-running show in Broadway history behind Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera. The winner of six Tony Awards in 1998, including Best Musical, The Lion King combines the wonder of the original story, the beloved songs and unprecedented live spectacle with lavish costumes and puppetry to represent the animals. This is due to the stage direction by Julie Taymor, who is known also for directing Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark and the movie musical Across the Universe. The touring company of The Lion King sets out to create as close of an experience to what is seen on Broadway every night. Only minimal changes are made when necessary for some venues.
The Circle of the Show's LifeThe composers of the musical retained every song that Elton John and Tim Rice wrote for the film. Lebo M. wrote several songs that got cut from the film but recorded in the album, The Legend of Pride Rock, some of which are used in Disney's straight-to-video sequel, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. The musical incorporates many of these songs into the story as well. Furthermore, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin and Julie Taylor wrote additional songs specifically for the live production. As such, the show contains more music and is a longer telling of the story than the animated classic. In the musical, Rafiki is a female baboon, changing the character's gender from the film. Due to the original movie's short runtime, several story elements are added alongside the additional songs to extend the show to a full two-act play with an intermission. You'll get to see everything you love about the movie along with a whole lot more to bring the story to life like never before.

How scary is the show for children? We all know that the villainous song "Be Prepared," the stampede scene and Mufasa's death are quite intense and can be troubling to some children. The live version maintains that same intensity. The simple fact that it is performed live, along with the loud sounds and momentary darkness associated with these scenes, may make it too frightening for sensitive or young kids. Therefore, it is recommended that children be at least 6 years old to attend. Only one of the additional scenes contains anything that may be disturbing to some audience members. During the song "The Madness of Scar," which is not found in the movie, Scar attempts to make Nala his queen in a manner that can be quite troubling.
