KT Tunstall: award-winning singer-songwriter

Born and raised in the university town of St. Andrews, Scottish vocalist KT Tunstall was first hooked on music after hearing legends such as David Bowie, and learned to sing by emulating the great Ella Fitzgerald. After gaining some experience performing in various indie bands, she decided to go it alone and signed with the British indie label Relentless Records. Debut album Eye To The Telescope was released in 2004, but failed to gain much exposure - at least at first.

When she was called in as a last minute replacement to perform on an episode of Later... With Jools Holland, it proved a remarkable turning point for her career. Armed with only a guitar, a tambourine and a loop pedal, she stole the show with her rendition of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree". Eye To The Telescope surged in popularity (reaching number three in the UK charts), while the performed single became one of the biggest radio hits of the year. With a BRIT (Best British Female Artist) and Ivor Novello Award (for "Suddenly I See") under her belt, the Scottish songster released three more top 10 UK albums in the proceding years, including critically acclaimed efforts Drastic Fantastic and Tiger Suit.
