Kojo Funds - British rhymes, West African grooves
Combining British rhymes with West African and Caribbean grooves, Kojo Funds is one of the most intriguing talents to emerge from the all-conquering grime scene. You can both buy and sell Kojo Funds tickets on StubHub.
From the streets to the MOBO Awards
Born in East London in 1985, Kojo Funds grew up listening to several artists who hailed from the same area, such as Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and Kano. He first began performing as a freestyler with friends before heading into the studio to record his debut single, "Want From Me," in 2014. He continued to develop his mix of grime, melodic rap and grooves from his Dominican and Ghanaian heritage on "Dun Talkin," a collaboration with Abra Cadabra, which later won Best Song at the 2016 MOBO Awards. A year later he received a Best Newcomer nod at the same awards, guested on tracks by Liv Dawson, Yxng Bane, GRM Daily and Wretch 32 and enjoyed his first taste of chart success with a co-feature on Mabel's UK Top 10 hit, "Finders Keepers." In 2018, he scored a Top 40 single of his own with the Craig David-sampling and Raye-featuring "Check," performed at Wireless Festival and Bestival and released his first full-length studio effort, "Golden Boy." Catch him in action by booking your Kojo Funds tickets on StubHub.
Star guests, dancing competitions, champagne-spraying
Described as the King of Afro-Swing, Kojo Funds first headlined his own show at London's Electric Brixton in 2018. Sporting his signature all-black outfit with gold chain combo, the star treated the sell-out crowd to renditions of his several solo singles and hit collaborations and also invited several of his peers to join him on stage, including Yxng Bane, Chip, Abra Cadabra and Wretch 32. Three particular fans also got the chance to be part of the show themselves when the rapper invited them to perform in a dancing competition, while the whole thing was capped off with the spectacle of confetti canons and champagne spraying. Kojo Funds went on to stage similarly entertaining performances at festivals including Reading and K4, as well as further headlining dates at Bristol, Nottingham, Norwich, Digbeth Southampton, his London hometown's O2 Forum Kentish Town and his first European gig at Berlin's Young & African Arts Market.
