King Diamond's history

King Diamond is the stage moniker of Kim Petersen, who first started experimenting with heavy metal in a band called Brainstorm. However, it was his time in Black Rose that shaped his dramatic stage presence, directly inspired from Alice Cooper's theatrics.

King Diamond embarked on a solo career in 1985 after he quit his erstwhile black-metal band Mercyful Fate, only to reunite with them later. King Diamond mostly performs with his eponymous band, although Mercyful Fate is still officially active.

King Diamond's biggest hits

King Diamond released Don't Break The Oath with Mercyful Fate in 1984, considered one of the most influential albums in black and thrash metal. They followed that album with a successful U.S. tour, King Diamond's first. However, perhaps the vocalist's best work is the album Give Me Your Soul ... Please, which broke through the Billboard Top 200. "Never Ending Hill" from the album got a 2008 Grammy nomination in the Best Metal Performance category.

Other notable works of King Diamond include the albums Abigail, The Spider's Lullabye, The Graveyard and House of God.

The respected vocalist has a devilish stage presence, characterised by his goth makeup. Most of King Diamond's albums are concept works that have full-fledged stories based on horror themes. King Diamond's live performances feature extensive visuals and props to support these horror-story lines.

King Diamond's biggest concerts

King Diamond performed alongside Metallica at Ozzfest in 2008 to a packed crowd. He performed several Mercyful Fate songs, which notably were a part of Metallica's tribute to the band that they'd released on the Garage Inc. record label.

The vocalist also performed at Sweden Rock Festival in 2012. They also rocked the stage in 2015 at Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival alongside the band Slayer.
