Country music runs through Kellie Pickler's veins. This former American Idol contestant (Pickler placed sixth on Season 5) has done what many reality TV alumni have failed to do: carve out a successful musical career. Kellie Pickler tours combine toe-shuffling tracks, thigh-slapping beats and sing-along choruses with vocals that soar like the Great Smoky Mountains.
Kellie Pickler's background
Born and raised in Albemarle, just outside Charlotte, N.C., Pickler dreamed of becoming an entertainer. She sang at her high school graduation ceremony, joined beauty pageants and even competed for Miss North Carolina. But it was the smash series American Idol that would ultimately give Pickler her big break. One of judge Simon Cowell's favorites, her restrained yet earthy vocals routinely enamored the show's audience. Pickler left the competition in the seventh week of the top 12 round (Taylor Hicks would go on to win), but her career in music had only just begun.
Kellie Pickler's history
Kellie Pickler's 2006 debut, Small Town Girl, reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and No. 9 on the Billboard 200. The album generated three Top 20 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart: "Red High Heels," "I Wonder" and "Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind." Her self-titled follow-up, released in 2008, was another commercial success, peaking at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart and producing two top 20 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart. "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You" and "Best Days of Your Life" would go on to scoop the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers' Songwriter Award.
Pickler's string of Top 5 albums on the Country Albums chart continued with 2012's 100 Proof, which reached No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200 and featured the singles "Tough" and "100 Proof." Pickler followed it up with her fourth studio set, The Woman I Am, a collection of country-pop bops. The album's first single was a cover of the country classic "Someone Somewhere Tonight," and it won Female Video of the Year at the 2013 American Country Awards.
Other projects include a successful stint on Dancing with the Stars (Pickler won the 16th season) and an appearance on ABC's Celebrity Family Feud, where she won $25,000 for charity. She has also honed her performance skills after touring extensively with country music trio Rascal Flatts.
