Joan Osborne Tour Dates
Joan Osborne is a storyteller. She belts lyrics that take listeners on a journey into her past as her dreamy vocals soar over thick melodies. Osborne's music is the culmination of her experiences -- she grew up in Anchorage, Kentucky, and moved to New York City in the late 1980s -- a mix of southern-style soul and Big Apple blues. Joan Osborne tickets are sought after by music lovers who covet authentic vocals and catchy country hooks.
Joan Osborne Background
Osborne didn't go to New York to become a singer -- she enrolled in film school -- but the lure of the city's music scene was too strong to resist. In the early 1990s, she formed her own record company, Womanly Hips, where she released her first indie recordings - a collection of country-soul-blues hybrids that combined heavenly harmonies and minimalist production.
Osborne released her debut, Soul Show: Live at Delta 88, in 1991. Clocking in at just over 52 minutes, the live album features a performance at Delta 88 nightclub and cemented Osborne as a dynamic and versatile live performer. Her self-penned tracks -- "Get Up Jack," "Dreamin' About the Day," "Wild World" and others -- stand up alongside covers from the great American soul book.
Osborne has played some of the world's biggest stages. Recognised for her intimate, heartfelt shows, she combines strength and fragility in every performance.
Joan Osborne History
Osborne's big break came in 1995. She signed to Mercury Records and released Relish, her first proper studio set. Nominated for Album of the Year at the 38th Grammy Awards, Relish features her chart breakthrough, "One of Us," which hit No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart. The track was also a big hit in her homeland, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. "St. Teresa," the second single from the album, was another top 40 hit in the UK.
Pretty Little Stranger, released in 2006, incorporates elements of country music. The album peaked at No. 58 on Billboard's Top Country Albums in the United States. Other songs on the set include "When the Blue Hour Comes," "Shake That Devil" and "Who Divided." In 2007, Osborne swapped country for soul music and recorded Breakfast in Bed, a collection of Motown standards. Passionate interpretations of "I've Got to Use My Imagination" and "Midnight Train to Georgia" -- made popular by Gladys Knight & the Pips -- feature on the 17-track set.
In 2014, Osborne released Love and Hate, her eighth studio album. The collection includes new compositions like "Where We Start," "Kitten's Got Claws" and "Work on Me."
Osborne has also contributed to other projects. She lent her vocals to Cheap Trick's 2009 album Sgt. Pepper Live -- a celebration of the Beatles' landmark Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
