Frank Skinner Biography - Quick-Fire Comedy Trailblazer

Born Christopher Collins in 1957, this West Bromwich funnyman has come a long way since being expelled from school at the age of 16. Having eventually got back on the straight and narrow and earned a university degree, he became a lecturer before pursuing a career in comedy. After performing his first gig under his now famous stage name in 1987, he enjoyed a meteoric rise on the circuit, scooping a coveted Perrier Award from the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 1991.

The beautiful game has always been a huge passion for 'fun time Frankie', who grew up with his semi-professional footballer father. In the '90s, he began presenting soccer show Fantasy Football League with long-term comedy partner David Baddiel. It was a roaring success and led to the pair writing and releasing the legendary chart-topping track 'Three Lions' to coincide with England hosting the Euro '96 tournament, leading to further fame with TV shows such as Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned and The Frank Skinner Show. In 2007, his return to stand-up resulted in another Perrier Award win and an extensive national tour, including three sold out performances at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
