Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1991, this arena was originally built to host the World Student Games and can hold audiences up to 13,600 - making it the region's biggest indoor venue. 12 years after its construction, the stadium underwent a multimillion pound revamp and as of 2013 boasts new seats, doors, lighting and catering facilities. The arena averages a total of 122 shows per year and has attracted some of the world's biggest stars, from Rihanna to Justin Timberlake and local legends the Arctic Monkeys. 2012 also saw historic band Pulp return to the stage after an 11 year hiatus, with fans flocking to the Steel City to see the first glimpse of the group in over a decade. The venue is also home to the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey team and since 2007 it has played host to the Premier League Darts tournament.
