Florida Atlantic University Arena History

Known to Florida Atlantic University students and alumni as "The Burrow", Florida Atlantic University Arena is the beloved home of the FAU Owls basketball and volleyball programs since it first opened in 1984. The Owls men's team would not become a tenant of the Boca Raton arena until 1988, the first year of the men's basketball program when it began competing in the NCAA Division II. For the 1993-1994 season, the FAU Owls were promoted to Division I as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Owls program is considered up and coming thanks to huge upset victories like their 1998 upset of then #1 Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. The fans at Florida Atlantic University Arena have always made the home gym an incredibly tough place for opponents to play and it all paid off in 2002 when the Owls defeated Georgia State in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship to land their first ever berth to the NCAA Tournament. Thanks to an extensive 2007 renovation, The Burrow is new and improved and better than ever.

Every season, Florida Atlantic University Owls fans flock to Florida Atlantic University Arena to cheer on the beloved team with a fire and passion that you need to see to believe. As the home of the Owls men's and women's basketball program as well as the volleyball program, the arena is a very important facet of student life on the Boca Raton campus. As a member of Conference USA since 2013, the FAU Owls host many exciting teams throughout the season, like the old Dominion Monarchs, University of Texas, El Paso Miners and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The Burrow underwent a $10 million renovation in 2007 and 2008, giving the arena a new life and providing much excitement to the students, alumni and Boca Raton community. When not hosting Owls games, FAU Arena hosts many other events like the beloved Harlem Globetrotters.
