Elle King is taking her show on the road following the release of her debut album, "Love Stuff". With a history of performing in her family, she has the confidence to entertain a crowd and the vocal and songwriting abilities to back it up.
American singer-songwriter Elle King is touring her home country to support the release of her new album. Previously, she has opened for artists including James Bay and Of Monsters and Men on their US tours. She has also performed at small venues in the UK. In February 2013, she played shows at The Lexington and The Shacklewell Arms in London. In 2012, she supported British indie rock band The Heavy at the Scala in King's Cross.
Elle's birth name is Tanner Elle Schneider, and her father is the famous comedian Rob Schneider. He is best known as a former cast member of the TV series Saturday Night Live (SNL). He has also starred in comedy films such as The Hot Chick and Grown Ups. Elle herself has appeared as an actress in three films, always starring alongside her father, including at the age of 10 as Cookie Girl in "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo".
Elle says she decided to become a musician at age 9, and age 13 began playing the guitar. During her teenage years, she was influenced by a wide range of artists, from classic soul singers such as Otis Redding and Etta James to contemporary rock acts like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She is also inspired by country and bluegrass music. All of these influences can be heard on her debut album.
Elle was discovered by RCA chairman Peter Edge when she was a young performer in New York City. Over time she developed her sound, and released her first EP, fittingly titled The Elle King EP, in June 2015. The EP featured the single "Good to be a Man", a feminist anthem with a thought-provoking video which got a great response online. Another track, "Playing For Keeps", was selected as the theme tune to the Vh3 TV series Mob Wives Chicago. This opened up opportunities to perform on TV shows such as "Late Show with David Letterman" and "The Today Show".
Elle's debut album "Love Stuff" was released on February 17, 2015. It features the single "Ex's & Oh's", which reached the top 20 in the US Rock Chart, the US AAA Chart and the Canadian Rock Chart. Two of the album tracks were also featured on the soundtrack to the hit movie "Hot Pursuit", starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofía Vergara.
Performing live has been an important part of Elle's development as an artist, as she has been playing gigs since she was 16, and gained experience by busking in New York. She performs with a band, and uses a banjo as accompaniment, an unusual and interesting choice for non-bluegrass music.
