Where education and entertainment meet
Conway Hall opened in 1929 and was named after the anti-slavery and free-thought campaigner Moncure Daniel Conway. His ethos has continued to this day and the Hall plays host to a packed calendar of events throughout the year that are designed to educate as well as entertain. The venue benefits from Grade II listing, which means that the Hall’s beautiful and historic heritage will be maintained for the enjoyment of generations to come. The Main Hall has been acclaimed for its wonderful acoustics and can host a seated audience of 400, with a further 400 in the balcony and ground floor stalls. A great entertainment selection with a cause
One of the recent highlights of the events programme has been the introduction of the "Giant Leaps" science series and a talk by John Gray, author of the best-selling book "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus". Charity events are a regular occurrence, such as the "Bloody Funny" comedy night which raises funds to aid female asylum seekers get access to essential feminine hygiene supplies. The show has starred Dane Baptiste as supported by Jen Brister, the Birthday Girls, Ellie Taylor and Aisling Bea. Comedy is also a fixture on the Hall calendar and events such as "Dirty Dancing and Me" by TV’s Katy Brand and the "Stand Up For Darwin" comedy night have been a rip-roaring success. The former radio and TV presenter-turned-comic Robin Ince presented stand up in the latter show. He is famed for presenting the popular radio show "The Infinite Money Cage" with the renowned scientist Professor Brian Cox, and appeared at the venue alongside Sara Pascoe, Jesus Camp, Lawrence Krauss and the London Humanist Choir.
