BTS World Tour in 2020
Despite only coming together in 2013, record-breaking, award-winning South Korean boy band BTS (Bangtan Boys or "bulletproof boy scouts" in Korean) are already one of the most influential groups in the history of K-pop. In the half decade since their debut single album 2 Cool 4 Skool, the seven-piece – consisting of Rap Monster (Kim Namjoon); Jin (Kim Seokjin); Suga (Min Yoongi); J-Hope (Jung Hoseok); Jimin Park; V (Kim Taehyung); and Jungkook Jeon – have sold over five million albums worldwide, hold multiple Guinness World Records and ranked number one on Forbes' Korea Power Celebrity list for 2018.
Although the group hail from South Korea, their fame is in no way limited to East Asia: with sell out shows at top venues as far and wide as the UK and the United States and a passionate following across the world, BTS have helped turn K-pop into a global movement. The group's debut track "No More Dream" was an instant success; earning BTS several New Artist of the Year awards and quickly spreading across Asia and into Europe. The band's debut studio record Dark & Wild (2014) spawned singles "Danger" and "War of Hormone", while both extended play The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 2 (2015) and compilation record The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever (2016) entering the U.S. Billboard 200.
BTS' second full album – Wings (2016) – peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200; becoming the highest chart ranking for a K-pop album ever and earning the band even more international recognition. At home, Wings became the best selling album in South Korean chart history (later surpassed by BTS' own 2017 record Love Yourself), with the album going on to sell over 1.5 million units. Already one of the finest bands to come out of Asia this century, the group continue to go from strength to strength in 2018 – so make sure you take the chance to see them live on their next tour. BTS: record-breaking, award-winning superstars
Given the importance of Twitter and Facebook in the modern music industry, perhaps one of BTS' most significant achievements so far has been their ability to harness the power of the respective platforms. In March 2016, BTS were listed by Forbes as the most retweeted artist on Twitter, after which the social network launched its first ever K-pop emoji, featuring BTS, in May of the same year.
A year later, Time magazine named the band one of the 25 most influential people on the internet, before BTS were inducted into the Guinness World Records 2018 for "most Twitter engagements for a music group". The group were the most tweeted about celebrity in 2017, being "liked or retweeted over half a billion times (502 million)" worldwide, more than U.S. President and notorious Twitter addict Donald Trump and Canadian pop star Justin Bieber combined.
In 2020, they embark on a new world tour. Don't miss out! Buy BTS tickets now at StubHub and make sure you're in the crowd for one of the biggest K-pop shows in UK history.
