The faithful folk Americana of Birds of Chicago
Birds of Chicago are the epitome of the kind of gorgeously rustic music that's often buried in dusty songbooks labelled "Americana". As such, they're basically a country folk band who play both traditional songs that go back through centuries of American history and modern compositions in the same genre. They're as authentic as you could wish for and have gained vast recognition for their contributions to the music that has underpinned so much of the arts and culture that has come out of the USA. If you're an aficionado, you can buy or sell Birds of Chicago tickets on StubHub.
Plying their folk music trade on the US festival circuit
Birds of Chicago is essentially a husband and wife duo, comprising one JT Nero, a dyed-in-the-wool Midwesterner, and Allison Russell, who originally hails from Canada and was once the lead singer of the country-folk roots bad Po' Girl in Montreal. To categorise the music of this duo beyond folk is quite challenging, as they embrace plenty of other influences to create what they call "secular gospel" – try wrapping your head around that one. We suppose this simply means what one hears in their music on the surface – that they use the country gospel format with lyrics that don't necessarily have any religious content. Initially performing under their personal names, the duo began hitting the live festival circuit in the areas around Chicago, in fact dedicating much of the year to this. Plenty of folk music fans got to see them live during this phase, when they played everything from the High Sierra Festival to the Strawberry Festival and Delfest. Birds of Chicago tickets have become one of the hottest acts in a genre that has a vast and faithful following all across the USA and out into the rest of the country music-loving world. So if you love bands like Our Native Daughters and singer-songwriters such as Sean Hayes, these are the tickets for you.
A chance to leapfrog to music industry recognition
All of this hard work that Birds of Chicago put in paid off handsomely when they were preparing to go into the studio to record their sophomore album. A producer of iconic stature offered to helm the desk, and the duo ended up recording their 2015 release, "Blue Midnight", with Grammy Award-winning producer Joe Henry, who had worked previously with such diversely famous names as Bonnie Raitt and Ani DiFranco. They were so unprepared for this opportunity that they had to create a Kickstarter campaign in order to pay for the whole undertaking. It was well worth it, however, when the album made them stars on local and national radio stations, including the hugely influential NPR. Their trajectory has continued upwards and they've continued to garner increasing recognition for their songwriting, their "American Flowers" being listed as one of Slate Magazine's best singles of the year for 2017. They're irresistible at what they do, and you'll not regret getting Birds of Chicago tickets on StubHub.
