Avondale Brewing Co. - A Local Craft Brewery
Avondale Brewing Co. is much more than a purveyor of thoughtfully created craft beers. It's a community fixture that embraces the local history of Birmingham's Avondale neighborhood, even adopting Miss Fancy (a historic, locally beloved elephant) as its logo. Avondale Brewing Co. also provides a space for musicians and artists to engage with the public while enjoying the finest in craft beverages.
Avondale Brewing Co. History
Avondale Brewing Co. was founded by brothers Coby and Hunter Lake in March 2010. Conceived as a small, craft brewery that would weave together beer and history, Avondale Brewing Co. was in part inspired by Miss Fancy, a beer-guzzling elephant who lived in the neighborhood during the Prohibition Era. Today, her legacy appropriately lives on in Avondale Brewing Co.'s beer, and patrons are even known to say "trunks up" instead of "cheers." The doors officially opened on November 4, 2011, and Avondale Brewing Co. has been celebrating the history of its neighborhood ever since.
Avondale Brewing Co. Events
The Avondale Brewing Co. maintains a regular rotation of concerts and other events, such as food truck rallies, Paint Nites and even dog-friendly "Paws on the Patio" gatherings to benefit local rescues. Many of their concerts and other events are structured to benefit local organizations in the community.
Avondale Brewing Co. Seating Layout
The Avondale Brewing Co. is housed in one of Birmingham's historic buildings. Dating back to 1895, the structure has been home to an eclectic range of businesses, from a fire station and a pharmacy to a bank and a post office. Now, it's home to Avondale Brewing Co. and the live music performances regularly hosted by the brewery. Grab yourself a glass of Spring Street Saison or Battlefield IPA and shout "Trunks up!" with the rest of the patrons before taking a seat on the comfortable back patio or settling in at the bar to listen to the evening's act.
Birmingham, Alabama
There's lots to do in this historic Southern city when you venture beyond the doors of the Avondale Brewing Co. Famous for its role in the Civil Rights Movement of 1963, Birmingham's must-see attraction is undoubtedly the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, an interactive museum that brings the fight for civil rights alive. The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is another local favorite. If you're looking for more live events, check out the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex, where you can catch a musical, attend an auto show or see music stars in concert.
Trivia
Long ago, the Avondale Brewing Co. building was occupied by the Long Branch Saloon, which included a secret bordello on the upper floor. According to legend, the brewery is haunted to this day by the former madam, known to patrons as "Meredith."
