The story of Annie London
Annie the musical tells the story of Annie, a little red-headed girl who lives in Miss Hannigan's orphanage in New York City. Annie and the other orphans are neglected under Miss Hannigan's rule, leading our heroine to make several escape attempts. One of these excursions leads to Annie befriending a scruffy but adorable mutt she names Sandy and singing to him the musical's most-famous song, "Tomorrow."
Annie's life changes when the billionaire Oliver Warbucks sends his assistant to the orphanage, charging her with bringing an orphan back to spend Christmas at his mansion. Encountering Annie during her visit, the assistant chooses the little orphan for the fateful Christmas visit. Warbucks and his staff all fall in love with Annie and want her to live at the mansion permanently.
Miss Hannigan, her equally unpleasant brother Rooster and his girlfriend Lily catch wind of Annie's new connection to indescribable wealth. The devious trio hatch a plan to thwart Annie's adoption and claim a reward offered by Warbucks for finding Annie's real parents. With Annie's ceaseless pluck -- plus a little assistance from President Franklin D. Roosevelt -- the story comes to have a happy ending after all.
