A Bronx Tale is the coming-of-age story of a young man named Calogero Anello. Treated like a son by the local mob boss, Calogero is drawn inexorably into the seedy world of organized crime, but his ambitions come at the expense of betraying the values that were instilled in him by his working-class father. The origins of the story date back to the 1989 one-man show by playwright and producer Chazz Palminteri. After a long development process, the musical adaption has appeared on Broadway and embarked on a US national tour.Once Upon a Time in the Bronx
Before he was a film star and Oscar nominee, Chazz Palminteri single-handedly wrote, developed and starred in his one-man show in Los Angeles. Robert De Niro happened to attend one of his shows and, impressed with the performance, agreed to buy the rights to the story. Palminteri wrote and starred in the 1993 film, which marked the directing debut of Robert De Niro. Following a Broadway performance of the one-man show in 2007, a laborious decade-long process began to adapt the story into a musical. The producers of the show hired celebrated Disney composer Alan Menken, who is best known for the music behind animated classics such as The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Menken’s longtime partner and collaborator Glenn Slater wrote the lyrics for the songs. Meanwhile, Chazz Palminteri worked on adapting the story into a book for the musical. Robert De Niro and Tony winner Jerry Zaks served as co-directors. With all of the elements in place, A Bronx Tale began previews at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J. on February 4th, 2016. Following the initial success, the musical made a Broadway debut at the Longacre Theatre on December 1st, 2016. After 700 performances, it closed on August 5th, 2018. For the role of Sonny, Nick Cordero received nominations from the Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. The Outer Critics Circle also bestowed nominations for Outstanding New Broadway Musical, Outstanding New Score and Outstanding Book of a Musical.Where can I purchase a Bronx Tale New York tickets?
