        The Damned Biography - Punk Legends, Still Going Strong

        Formed in 1976, the band comprised itself of musicians who departed other rock outfits. After extending an invitation to Sid Vicious and Vanian to audition for the position of frontman only the latter turned up, automatically winning him the role. The newly-formed fivesome were already supporting the Sex Pistols by their second gig, and they hold the distinct honour of releasing the first British punk single, 'New Rose'. The group's landmark string of firsts also includes being the first British punk band to tour the US.

        Combining psychedelic and garage rock with dynamic visual performance elements, the group's dark melodies and notable stage shows saw them become forerunners of the goth-punk genre. Their prominence within punk music is still recognised today, with the band continuing to record and tour extensively across the UK.
