Deriving their name from a familiar Latin phrase, this fantastic five-piece are anything but common. Inspired by rock 'n'
roll and psychedelia, they were formed in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster. Originally known as The Spectres, they
initially signed a five-year record deal with Piccadilly Records. When drummer John Coghlan, Roy Lynes and Rick Parfitt joined,
the group started experimenting with an emerging genre named 'boogie rock'. They went on to sign to Vertigo in 1972 and, after
a short spell as Traffic Jam, the group settled on their current name in 1969.
Known for hits such as 'Pictures of Matchstick Men', 'Caroline' and 'Whatever You Want' - along with their signature tune
